Paul Hellinckx graduated as a Business Engineer from the Solvay Business School in Brussels and followed the PED program at IMD in Lausanne. He started his career in the zinc department of Umicore (now part of Nyrstar) where he developed the export markets and successfully started a trading book aiming at controlling and taking advantage the flow of metal coming out of the CIS.
In 1994 he moved on to Tinfos Nizi (the trading arm of the Norwegian ferro alloy producer Tinfos) where he was in charge of the Non Ferrous Metals Department which he developed from scratch to a leading revenue driver for the company. In 2000 he became the CEO of the Company and led a strategic turnaround. This included the elaboration and implementation of a new strategy, restructuring of the management and reengineering of the ERP system.
From 2004 until 2008 he was in charge of several non-ferrous metal trading companies, LN Metals in London and BHL Metals in Switzerland. He then moved to the Russian group Basic Element where he established and managed the Swiss company in charge of the worldwide marketing of the Ferro molybdenum production. He was also involved in the preparation of the IPO of the Russian mother company Strickeforce Mining and Resources which was foreseen to take in place in 2008 in Hong Kong. In 2009, Paul founded Proval Partners together with Valérie Weigel. Paul has extensive experience in commercial and management issues which the non ferrous metal industry is facing: Structured and trade finance, accounting (including hedge accounting and IAS), finance, hedging, IT and ERP system implementation, sales and sourcing management land optimisation, logistics. He combines a wide managerial expertise with hands on experience together with a strategic vision.

Guido Brötzmann graduated
as Diplom Ingenieur in
Thermodynamics and Fluid
Mechanics from the University, Otto von Guericke, Magdeburg.
He started his career as the Plant Manager for Metaleurop Weser Zink GmbH (now XSTRATA Zink GmbH), Nordenham Germany. He managed the pyrometallurgical plant, the off-gas cleaning, the sulfuric acid plant and the waste water treatment plant. He has worked for Ruhr-Zink GmbH as production manager for the pyrometallurgical plant, the off-gas cleaning plant, acid plant and smelting department as well as the laboratory. He worked as CEO of Ruhr-Zink GmbH-Datteln – Germany. He held the responsibility for a turnover of EUR 350 million and 201 employees. He increased production from 108,000 to 130,000 tons of SHG-zinc, implemented a cost-cutting program reducing operational costs with EUR 20 million and a reduction of staff of approx. 20% as well as he implemented significant improvements in safety and quality standards.
Later he worked as a consultant for CME Consulting as expert in zinc metallurgy, maintenance and sulphuric acid technology. The consulting projects comprised : Feasibility studies and due diligence and benchmark studies in the non-ferrous metal industry, start-up operations and de-bottle necking of pyrometallugical plants as well as efficiency improvements in operations and maintenance. Until recently he worked as the CEO of REMONDIS Süd GmbH – Munich/Freiburg/Stuttgart – Germany. He was managing a annual turnover of 330 million EUR and 1,750 employees and his span of control comprised: Waste recycling, metal processing, fermentation of organic waste, biogas and electricity production, operation of sorting and trading of plastic waste, industrial waste disposal, trade of residues from paper recycling, operating a wood heating plant and the logistics of 900 commercial trucks.

Valérie
Weigel graduated
as a Metallurgical Engineer from the Ecole Supérieure de Physique et Chimie Industrielles (ESPCI) in
Paris. She started her career as a Research and Process Engineer in the joined
research department of Eramet and Metaleurop.
She then moved on to the operational side as Assistant Manager of the Leaching
and Purification Department at the Xstrata Nordenham
zinc plant (former Metaleurop plant). She later went
on to head of Leaching and Purification Department at Ruhr Zink GmbH zinc
plant. Since 2007 she is consultant and participated in several projects in the
non ferrous metallurgy.
Valérie
managed the implementation of a number of performance improvement projects at
Ruhr Zink GmbH. As a result, the plant went on to become the industry leader in
the treatment of secondary zinc raw material originating from the recycling of
residues from the steel industry by increasing up to 35% the ratio of these raw
materials in the feed.
Valérie’s
combination of academic qualifications, experience in Research and Process
along with extensive industrial experience puts her in a position to advise
extremely efficiently on improvement and expansion projects in the zinc
industry.
